Description
A black and white photograph depicting the rear of buildings located along Thames Street prior to redevelopment (looking northeast from Government Landing). Features of the photograph include two parking lots, a narrow side street bordered by sidewalks, and densely-packed commercial buildings, mostly constructed of clapboards, shingles, and brick. This side of Thames Street (just north of Government Landing and Market Square) was subsequently demolished to make way for the Brick Market retail and condominium development. Visible buildings (from left to right) include St. Paul's Church, the Hazard School, the Second Congregational Church, the Newport Artillery Company, and the Clarke School.
