Description
One side of the case depicts a leaping horse. The other side shows three dogs in a rural setting. The dog side of the case is in worse condition than the side depicting the horse. The face of the watch has worn off. The workings are intact but rusted into place. The watch is now in five pieces. Engraved: '(Remontoir?) Au Pendant/ Etienne/ (incre?) (cigne droit)/ 15/Rubis. Note with watch reads: 'This watch was found by Chief Gunner Charles Morgan 'USS New York' on July 4th (1898) at 4:30pm on the 'Almirante Oquendo' after she had been destroyed by Admiral Sampson's fleet at Santiago de Cuba and presented by him to Miss Edith L. Richards, Newport, RI'.
