Description
Two sided gilded frame. Front of frame contains a painted copy of the Hammond and Adams family coat of arms, complete with an American flag above a helmet of armor. First half of framed document on back is a description and an explanation of the Hammond coat of arms. The second half of the document is a description and explanation of the Adams coat of arms. Text reads, "The beareth sable(?), a _ _ _ with a flour de leis, _, between 4 lions heads _ of the third, by the name of Hammond, this arms was granted to the honorable Hugh Hammond of the county of Lancaster, an inhabitant of the parish of Islington, near London, Feb. 10, 1664. _Th year of the reign of King Charles the second and from that grant descends to the family of Hammond. ------the beareth _, on a bend _, between two _ 3 _ sable, granted to William Adams of the middle temple, councelor of law, by Sir John Borough Garten(?), the 14th March 1639. ------ Boston June 9th 1798.
