Lining is accompanied by a letter written by Miss Georgine Campbell. The letter reads: "this lining of General Washington's overcoat - given him by General Lafayette, was given to my mother by her sister-in-law, Jane Wray Washington, daughter of Needham Washington, grand-daughter of Lawrence Washington, and great-niece of George Washington." Miss Georgine Campbell gave the letter and piece of lining to Martha C. Codman on July 7th 1905.
