Description
(D) is a flat, plush lined wooden presentation box numbered "76" on an oval brass plate. Inside the box are three identical medals: (A) and (B) is pewter and (c) is bronze. The design of the medals show a raised map of Aquidneck Island showing Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth. On the reverse is the Liberty Tree. Medals read "200 years/May 4, 1776/Rhode Island Independence Commemorative"; (reverse) "Liberty Tree/1766/Undaunted by Tyrants/We'll Die Or Be Free". Accompanying folder has brief history, medals designed by John Howard Benson.
