Description
Dinner fork of fiddle-head pattern; engraved "WRT" on front, "HHS" on back. According to original accession card: "HHT" are the initials of Harriet Hamilton Taylor Saunders and "WRT" is William Rogers Taylor. Same fiddle-head pattern as #81.3.1 and #81.3.5. Marked with "GW & H" on back of handle. Accession book says: from Taylor Family "The Complete Encyclopedia of Antiques", Ed. L.G.G. Ramsey, F.S.A., Hawthorn Books, Inc., Publishers, New York; 1962; p. 1401. Fiddle pattern: stems shaped with broad upper section and notched shoulders at bowl end, resembling slightly the basic form of violin body. Introduced in early 19th century. Found plain, with threaded edges or with stamped shells at top.
