Description
Large coin with profile of Commodore M.C. Perry. On the reverse, a victory wreath surrounding an inscription. Presented to Commodore M.C. Perry by the merchants of Boston for his success in the negotiation of a treaty with Japan in 1854. Ref. "Commodore Perry opens Japan." - Rhode Island History", ref - v. I, no. 1, (Jan 1942). 

Inscripton on the back reads: "Presented to Com. M.C. Perry, Special Minister from the U.S.A. By merchants of Boston, in token of their appreciation of his services in negotiating the treaty with Japans, signed at Yoku-Hama, March 31, and with Lew Chew at Napa, July 11, 1854. Mississippi."
