Description
Memorial: mourning scene. Urn, willow, figure, plinth. In memory of Charles Shield Maxwell. Painted fruit and flowers on edges. Girl's name: little oval (illegible). This picture is nearly identical to a group made at the Moravian school. This is silk thread on silk.

Note: there were Moravians in Newport since the mid-18th century, but no Charles Shield Maxwell has been identified. This was made in Bethlehem, PA.
