Lithograph of Newport, RI, in 1730; 19th century copy of 18th century over mantel painting by unknown artist. Shows view of Newport shoreline, wharves and harbor from Fort George, Goat Island. English flag at Fort George. Many boats in harbor (2nd from left is "Star London"). Below lith. Is printed: "entered according to act of Congress in the year 1884 by J.P. Newell in the clerk's office of the district court of the district of mass." Gold frame. Although titled "Newport in 1730," the image more closely illustrates Newport in c.1740 (see Colony House; Long Wharf prior to its 1741 extension).
