Description
Painted wood model of side pumper, red with black and gold trim; metal pumping mechanism, wooden handles. Solid wooden wheels, smaller front wheels on swivel. Air chamber is reproduction of original in NHS collection (#91.7.36). Scale of model is about 1:15. Inscription on model: "Torrent/1736/" and gold number 1 with fleur de lis. Original has these markings and "Newsham & Ragg/London". Appears to be an accurate reproduction of the 1736 Newsham and Ragg (London) fire pumper, said to have been purchased by Godfrey Malbone after a fire in Newport.
