Description
Wooden box, custom made for the delivery of dies used to stamp the Benjamin B. Howland commemorative medal (91.7.5). Made of 1-inch thick slabs of wood nailed together; entire box was originally screwed shut and sealed with wax over nails and screws. Insignia on seals is illegible. Painted on top of box: "David King Esq/Newport/RI/value/$125.00" and misc. Pencil notations. Benjamin B. Howland was clerk of the city of Newport from 1826(?) To 1876(?). This medal was a testimonial gift to him in 1876 commemorating fifty years of service.
