Portrait of Thomas Dring (1758-1825) standing by a window. A sailing ship is visible through the window, with a heavy, dark, curtain pulled to the left. Dring is wearing a tall black hat, navy blue coat with gold buttons, red vest with collar, shirt with high white collar and bow; holding small telescope in right hand. Oval wooden frame painted in gold and glazed. Thomas Dring was a prisoner on the HMS Jersey prison ship during the Revolution.
