Description
Rowboat "Rescue," made by Thomas Stoddard, used by Ida Lewis. Oak boat with two sets of oars; two benches across middle and two sets of oarlock holders. Panel with criss-cross pattern at bow. Nautical flag and nameplate reading "Rescuer" inside at stern. Boat painted blue with white stripe above waterline. Plaque reads: "This boat was presented to Ida Lewis by the citizens of Newport on July 4, 1869. After her death in 1911, it was presented with tiller, flags, medals, etc., to the Newport Historical Society. It was built by Thomas Stoddard, a renowned boatbuilder of Newport."
