Description
Coat of arms worked in golds, reds, blacks and metallic yarns. Design source is the arms of father of her great- great- grandfather, Richard Scott of Providence, RI. Embroidered over a full size tracing made from the velum arms. Arms - Glemsford, Co., Suffolk, England. In early 19th century eglomise frame. This is the second oldest piece of Scott needlework, and is the only known embroidered coat-of-arms of a Rhode Island family. Copied from 1608 design on vellum, owned by the Newport Historical Society. Made with silk thread and metallic yarns on silk.
