Description
Photograph of the Ferryboat J.A. Saunders, owned by John A. Saunders of 6 Bruuer Ave, Wilbraham, MA. This steamboat was built in Saunderstown (1902) by Stillman Saunders. In 1927 shoe foundered and sank off Mackerel Cove, Jamestown, while being towed from Newport to the west side of the island. It is said that her remains may be seen at low tide, and some of her timbers were used in the construction of one of the houses on the island. Photograph from the collection of Wilfred Warren.
