A photograph depicting the yacht Placidia capsized near Long Wharf, Hurricane of 1938. The yacht once belonged to John Jacob Astor III. Newspaper clipping affixed to reverse reads as follows: "Corrections/The yacht Placidia, which appeared in a photo on the cover of the Daily News' Hurricane of '38 supplement Tuesday, was owned by Henry Monsen of Newport. Mr. Monsen had purchased the yacht from John Astor about three years before the hurricane." Clipping indicates that the photograph was published in the Newport Daily News.
