Description
In a letter sent from Aaron Lopez to Captain Nathaniel Briggs, Lopez orders Brigs to sail the Sloop Betsey to the Coast of Africa. Once he was to arrive, Lopez advised Briggs to employ his best judgement. Briggs could either sell all of the goods and the vessel itself if he would get a good price for it. Otherwise, Briggs is instructed to use the goods to purchase enslaved people, sell the vessel, and pay a contact of Lopez's to traffic the enslaved people to Kingston, Jamaica for sale. Lopez concludes the letter by encouraging to sell the good and vessel for bills of exchange if at all possible, and encourages Briggs to send updates once he reaches the coast of Africa.; Voyage of the Sloop Betsey to the coast of West Africa, per the instructions of Aaron Lopez who owned the vessel.
