Description
Continuation of minutes from a meeting of the African Union Society on October 13, 1796. Page also includes a copy of a document dated November 6, 1796, certifying Cudjo Gibbs is a member of the African Union Society in Newport and recommending him "to all friends abroad." Document endorsed by Charles Chaloner, Zingo Stevens, Abraham Casey, Quam Bowers, and N.G. [Newport Gardner]. Page also includes minutes from a meeting of the African Union Society on December 7, 1796. Includes a list of contributions made to the Society. Zingo Stevens reported he could not locate the book loaned by the African Church or Company in Philadelphia. Abraham Casey reported Quam Bowers' previous absence was due to his wife's illness. Bowers' fine waived for previous absence but fined for current absence. Society voted 3 blank books "to be bought by the blacks of this Town for record may be bought by the African Union Society." Present at the meeting: Charles Chaloner, Zingo Stevens, Abraham Casey, and Newport Gardner. Absent: Pompey Scott, Quam Bowers, Cudjo Gibbs, and Robert Keith. [see also Vol.1674B, pp. 240-242]
