Framed photograph of J.P. Newell. Subject is wearing a coat with two sets of buttons. His left hand rests upon his hip. A slip of paper inside the frame reads, "JP Newell/ c. 1830-1898". On the reverse of photo is written, "From J.P. Newell to Miss Annie M Strout" above the photographer credit, which is obscured by a large gold mass that has an anchor and the word "HOPE" written on it. Below the London photographer credit Newell writes, "Annie/How do you like my photo. Have you the pretty moonlight I gave you of Lime Rocks"
