Description
Letter signed by Sir John Bourchaier, May 25, 1649. transcription of letter contained with item from Frances Hubbert, librarian at Redwood Library to Roderick Terry, Oct. 8 1935] "My dear Mr. Terry: I have found the two unidentified autographs you mentioned today. I have looked them up, and have ascertained the following facts: Sir John Bourchaier (died 1660) entered the Long Parliament in 1645. In December 1648 he was appointed on of the judges of King Charles, and signed the King's death-warrant. A number of Committees of Indemnity were appointed by the Long Parliament throughout the troublous times of the Civil Wars; I suppose Bourchaier, being an M.P., served on one of these Committees, as your letter indeed goes to prove. (Authorities: Dictionary of National Biography, vol. 6; Collection of Acts and Ordinances made in Parliament, 1640-1656.)"
