Charter agreement between Samuel and William Vernon, Newport, and Obed Butler, Falmouth, Ma., March 29, 1774. Butler is chartering the ship Susanna from the Vernons from Newport to Virginia and back. The document states, "shall happen to be siezed and confiscated during said voyage by reason or means of her being loaded with any unlawful goods or merchandise" Butler will have to cover the cost of the vessel.
