Description
Small spiral-bound Polaroid album containing 16 black and white Polaroids captured by William Luri, Jr. while attending the Newport Jazz Festival on July 4, 1959. The images show small clubs, including the Canary Lounge, well-dressed audience members, and the main outdoor stage for the festival. The headliner for that day was Duke Ellington and His Orchestra supported by Erroll Garner. Luri has captured candid shots of musicians such as the Newport Youth band and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. The album highlights the experiences of Black attendees at the Jazz festival.
