Description
An account book detailing transactions associated with merchant John Banister (1707-1767), September 1746-December 1749. Some highlights include Banister's exporting of Narragansett Pacers to the West Indies, record of payment for portraits to Robert Feke, references to shipbuilding, references to slave labor, and records of international trade (for example, textile and mahogany imports). Book also details transactions with several local merchants, including women shopkeepers. Book is covered in vellum with Russian leather banding; canvas lining. Three leather bands are located around the book's spine and on the front cover. Bands on cover are covered with a latticework of leather strips.
