The volume has no inscription that definitively indicates to whom it belonged. However, it was discovered in 2018 the Newport Daily News building at 101 Malbone Road, and names that appear numerous times in the volume include L. D. Davis and T. T. Pitman, both individuals who owned the newspaper from 1866 through the 1870s. Therefore, it is likely that entries concerning printing and advertisements document Newport Daily News transactions.
