Description
Pink flowered box, likely from a department store. One of several used by Eileen Gillespie Slocum to store her personal archive of correspondence. Notes on interior of box lid read:

"All personal papers kept thus far my me because of their collective importance to me as documentary records of my dealings and relationships with the world, and other interesting evidence bearing upon my life.
"Sealed today, Sunday, August 4th, 1935   Newport, Rhode Island, U.S.A.
"by me  Eileen Sophia Sherman Gillespie  P.S. There are no duplicate papers herein.
"Opened today,
"Monday, October 7th, 1935
"to withdraw such letters as were written by the late Arthur Wellman Butter Jr so that I might present them to his mother   Eileen Sophia Sherman Gillespie
"Resealed today,
:Saturday, August 1st, 1936
"by Eileen Sophia Sherman Gillespie"

The letters contained in this box have been removed and are stored in Boxes 3 and 4 of the Eileen Slocum family papers (MS.086).
