Box and key
Wood box covered with animal skin, perhaps calfskin, held in place with nailed leather straps. There is a handle on the top of the box, and a locking clasp at the front. The interior of the box is lined with a New York newspaper dating from 1821. The box likely dates from the 18th century, or the early 19th century at the latest. A small key is with the box.
This box belonged to the John Clarke Trust and contained financial records of the trust, including rentals of Charity Farm. Those records have been removed and are stored with the John Clarke Trust records (MS.088)
