Description
Detached bodice from what was once a one piece dress with FIC.2018.025 A. Tag "Dress of Miss Gilbert dau. of Capt John Gilbert [...] killed in battle 1756 or 8 see [pedigree])) married Dr. Alexander Johnston. She was the mother of Robert Johnston she of [...] our grandfather. Later she married Dr. Weir." [...] indicated spelling is uncertain or illegible.
Pink silk with white stripes. 1 1/2 inch wide burgundy and white ribbon gathered around neckline. Very light boning inside. Bodice comes to extreme point in back center, extending 3 inches past the hem. Opens in front. Lined with what was likely cambric, but has lost much of its glaze. Coarse linen lines the center "busk." Hand sewn. Drawstring on front neckline.
