TitleL'apôtre de la Liberté Immortalisé - The Apostle of Liberty Immortalized
French Revolutionary era allegorical image depicting Benjamin Franklin being brought to heaven as his death is mourned. The figure of Franklin is clearly still alive and an inscription on an obelisk to the right reads, "FRANKLIN NE PEUT MOURIR", "FRANKLIN CANNOT DIE". This is a print of an original etching. A subtitle in French states that the image is dedicated to the Friends of the French Constitution, to be presented to the French National Assembly. The National Assembly was dissolved September 1791, and as such the print must be pre this date.
