Description
A collection of seaweed specimens found in Newport between 1896-1897. Consists of 175 individual specimens, many of which are labeled with appropriate species names and the location where the species was collected (for example, "Easton's Beach" and "Jamestown" are mentioned).

Many samples are mounted on their original pages, while others have been rehoused on newer archival paper. A note given by the donor, Mrs. Alfred L. Carry, reads as follows:

"Sea Botany
Algea [sic] collected around the
shores of Newport in 1896 + 1897

Presented to the marine Museum of the Historical Society by
April 10-1957                                  Mrs. Alfred Carry.

To collect and mount these algea [sic] place a specimen in a shallow pail of sea water. As it floats, slip a piece of firm paper under it, and arrange the floating plant to advantage on the paper [sic] Gently lift the paper. The algea [sic] will adhear [sic], and dry the mounted specimens on newspapers.     M. Carry."
