Minutes from a meeting of the African Humane Society convened at the house of Zingo Stevens on February 11, 1808. The Society voted that, going forward, from November to May all meetings would be held at 7 o'clock in the evening and at 8 o'clock from May to November. The Society also voted that any member not present when the list of names was read would be fined 6 pence unless a present member could provide a satisfactory excuse, and if the said member did not appear at all, they would be fined an additional 6 pence for their absence. The Society also voted to summon Abraham Casey by warrant to appear before the Society and explain his six months of absences from duties as vice president. Minutes include a copy of the warrant dated February 13, 1808, and signed by Newport Gardner. At the meeting, the Society also voted to give a small blank book they previously purchased to the African Benevolent Society. Present at the meeting: Cudjo Gibbs, Newport Gardner, Ceasar Wanton, Zingo Stevens, Cuffee Benson, John Davice, and Jacob Gardner. Absent: Abraham Casey, Cuffee Mumford, Quarm Bowers, Cudjo Hicks, Henry Clarke, and Newport Eldred.
