DescriptionMinutes from an annual meeting of the African Humane Society convened at the house of Abraham Casey on August 8, 1805. At the meeting, the Society chose officers, a committee (Zingo Stevens, Charles Chaloner, and Quarm Bowers), and key keepers (Ceasar Wanton, Casey, and Stevens). The Society also examined the Treasury and reported a total of $77.81, and $1.18 was reported missing. The former treasurer and key keepers, namely Cudjo Gibbs, Casey, and Wanton, were ordered to resolve the deficiency. The minutes also contain a list of people and interest due on their accounts to be paid at the meeting in November, including A. Casey, Z. Stevens, C. Mumford, C. Gardner, and C. Hicks. Present at the meeting: Cudjo Gibbs (President), Abraham Casey (Vice President), Newport Gardner (Secretary), Ceasar Wanton (Treasurer), Zingo Stevens, Charles Chaloner Jr., Quarm Bowers, Ceasar Gardner, Cuffee Benson, John Davice, and Cudjo Hicks. Cuffee B. Mumford was fined for his absence.
