Minutes from a meeting of the African Union Society convened at the house of Charles Chaloner on October 12, 1797. The Society read the proceedings from the previous meeting but determined nothing required their attention. Cudjo Gibbs moved to determine the circumstances of Pompey Scott. Being “old and infirm,” the Society resolved to excuse Scott from making contributions with no penalties to his societal privileges or membership. Present at the meeting: Charles Chaloner, Ceaser Gardner, Zingo Stevens, Newport Gardner, Abraham Casey, Cudjo Gibbs, Quarm Bowers, and Cuffee Benson. Absent: Pompey Scott, Prince Lilibrege, Newport Easton, and Robert Keith. Lilibrege and Easton were fined for their absences.
