Minutes from a meeting of the African Union Society on December 22, 1796, at which Cudjo Gibbs presented a letter from the African Humane Society at Philadelphia dated November 27, 1796. Minutes include a copy of the letter asking for a copy of the Newport Society's Rules and Regulations. Letter includes names of founders and committeemen of the African Humane Society. Cudjo Gibbs and Newport Gardner reported Prince Lilibredge and Cuffee Benson wanted to join the Society, and they were invited to the next meeting to hear the rules. Present at the meeting: Charles Chaloner, Zingo Stevens, Quarm Bowers, Cudjo Gibbs, and Newport Gardner. Pompey Scott, Abraham Casey, and Robert Keith noted as absent.
