Sale of Land from Arthur Tikey to Cupid Brown

Event, EV02283

March 19 1793
A record of the sale of a lot of land with dwelling house in Newport from Arthur Tikey, otherwise called Arthur Flagg, to Cupid Brown for 30 pounds silver. Lot described as bordered by Thames Street to the east, land of the late Colonel Benjamin Hall to the south, land of the heir of Nathan Ingraham to the west, and land owned by the heirs of Captain William Read to the north. Record notes the land was previously sold to Mary Flagg by the heirs of John Ingraham. Signed, sealed, and delivered in the presence of John Stevens and Mary Stevens on March 19, 1793.

Research has revealed this property is likely in the vicinity of 17-29 Thames Street, near Cross Street. John Stevens and Mary Stevens were landowners to the north of the property. At some point, the land and dwelling house returned to Flagg's possession, as it is listed in his May 17, 1804, will [Town Council Probate Records, Vol 4, pages 685-686.]
