The deposition of Henry Shuburne swearing before Peleg Barker, Jr., Justice Peace, that in June 1781 he attended a vendue sale at "the Wharf of Captain Caleb Gardner" in Newport where he made several bids on Bob, an enslaved man. Henry spoke to Bob and learned Bob was caught by the French Fleet after running from his enslaver in Virginia. Bob was then purchased by Godfrey Weinwood for “about” 170 dollars. To be used in the Court of Common Pleas against Weinwood.
